Positively Weightless

A healthy life not only means physically healthy, but mentally as well. Healthy eating, healthy exercising habits, and a positive attitude are all important and help maintain balance in life. I decided to combine my love of writing and my positivity to change the world in hopes that any reader can also become positively weightless, and lead them to a healthy life.

I apologize that this post took me so long to finally write. I wanted the part 2 of this entry to go up a week after the first part, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. I have finally gotten past the wall I hit in my progress and my weight is slowly starting to decrease again… but as I have mentioned before the number on the scale isn’t the most important thing to me anymore. Even despite that though it still feels good to see it go down again after weeks at a standstill.

The second half of the “What I am Doing Differently” entry is going to be about my workout schedule and finishing up my day and what I am doing differently in that process this time around. Before I was going to the gym after dinner, usually around 7 pm. As time went on this system slowly began harder and harder to stick to. When I get home from work, a lot of the time the first few things I like to do it change my clothes (usually into my pajamas) and take my makeup off (and remove contacts etc.) I usually eat dinner around then as well. Now after I eat dinner and get all settled in for the night the last thing I want to do is pack myself back up and go to the gym. I would think of a million excuses to blow it off. Here is what I am doing this time around:

My routine starts at work, at the end of the day. I leave work around 4:30 pm on a normal day, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays (for now) I head to the gym directly after work. On those days I usually have some sort of snack before I leave work. I will sometimes have a power bar of some sort, or a piece of fruit of some kind (usually apple slices or a banana). Just something in my stomach to raise my blood sugar a bit, but nothing with too many calories. I am used to eating dinner after work, so by going straight to the gym I eat my dinner an hour or two later. I want to have something small that will hold me over and get me through my workout.
Once I leave work I drive right to the gym. I have been finding that writing down my workouts on my desk calendar at work really helps me stick to going. It seems a little silly, but I just feel like displaying it on my calendar makes it seem more set in stone and I feel less likely to blow it off because of this.
If you are going directly after work or school I highly suggest a gym bag. Seems like a no brainer right? What I did was shop around for an affordable but cute bag that I like to carry. Just another little trick that makes going to the gym more enjoyable if you are like me and (at least right now) it isn’t your favorite thing to do. I found my bag on Etsy and it was right in my price range and also included free monogramming. I honestly love the bag I found and it is just the right size.
Once I get to the gym I head to the locker room and then I go into a changing room. Here is where the gym bag comes in handy. For before my workout I have a lot of useful things in my bag. I will list them now to hopefully pass along some ideas:
Clothes: I of course have my workout clothes in my bag. I have my workout pants, a shirt, a sports bra (honestly they really are just so much more comfortable to exercise in), and of course my sneakers.

Pre-workout Items: A hairbrush, hair ties, bobby pins, lip balm, gum, and very importantly makeup removing wipes.
Figured I would add a pre-workout selfie!
In my gym clothes and makeup is off.
I go into the changing room and change my clothes first. While I am in there and have a little bit of privacy I usually do around 20 squats and stretch as a little warmup. Stretches are an obvious choice to warm up, and I decided to do squats as well because I was highly recommend doing them. Once I finish these up, I usually head back out to the main locker room. Here I put my hair up in a ponytail, pin back any pieces that may be falling out, and I use a wipe to remove my makeup. I only remove my face makeup and lipstick if I am wearing it that day (hence the lip balm haha). I typically leave my eyebrows and eye makeup on. This really is only because they are a pain to fully remove without fully washing your face. I would look like a raccoon if I tried removing that.
This is honestly a great song to
workout to.
Once I am all ready to workout I lock up the remainder of my things and I only take out a bottle of water, my phone, and earbuds. I then go workout! I usually do about 30 minutes of cardio… this is only until I work my endurance back up a bit and can handle more. My biggest tip would be to listen to music you love and will make the time fly by. I have been really into Fitz and the Tantrums lately, so I have been listening to them a lot while I work out and the times flies by. Find something that will hold your interest and will make the workout a little easier.
Once my 30 minutes is up I head back to the locker room and chill out for a little while. I have a few items in my bag that are specifically for after my workout as well. They are:
Clothes: I have a little bag in my gym bag that I have extra pairs of socks and panties in. We all know it doesn’t hurt to have extras of these especially after a workout.
Post-Workout: Other items for after my workout include body spray, a microfiber towel since my gym does not have towels available anymore, and deodorant wipes.
I personally go right home after the gym so I just change back into my everyday clothes and head home to shower there. I just don’t see the point in showering there when I am going home. The body spray and deodorant wipes really help if I have an errand or two to run before heading home. Just a quick refresh before heading out.
I love getting the power bowl meals from
Wegmans after a workout for dinner.
Once I get home I have a healthy dinner and then shower and settle in for the night. That is pretty much it for the rest of my day. I honestly feel like it is really working out so well for me already. I have honestly gone to the gym more this year already than all of last year and I can already feel my tolerance and endurance building up again slowly.
Now that I have shared what I am doing differently this time around I think at the end of next month or so I will do a follow-up. Share what is working for me and if I have made any changes.
As always, thank you very much for reading it is very much appreciated.

I am a bit behind here with my posting, and I will be posting part 2 of my last entry very soon, but since I mentioned that I have been making my lunches for the week on Sundays  I figured I would share my meal prep for this week. This recipe is something I have been making for myself in single servings for a while now for dinners. I decided to make this for my lunches this week, and document it so I could create my next recipe post.

Sunday Meal Prep: Turkey Shepard's Pie Filling

Ingredients:
- 1 lb of lean ground turkey (you can use extra lean if you'd like, but I feel it gets a bit too dry using that for my personal taste)
- 1 container of low sodium chicken broth (you will be adding salt, so low sodium is best)
- Carrots (About 3 large)
- Celery (I used one small bunch)
- 1 Large Vidalia Onion
- Potatoes (I used about 4 small potatoes)
- 2-4 Tbsp Flour
- Cooking Spray
- Salt & Pepper (I used garlic salt)

I used rainbow carrots and a colored potato medley...
that's why the vegetables are so colorful!
First: Chop all of the vegetables except the potatoes into small dices. Put them in a skillet, sprayed with cooking spray, over medium heat. Let the vegetables saute for a few minutes.

Second: While the vegetables are cooking, chop your potatoes in a similar size to the other vegetables. Set them aside for a few moments to allow the other vegetables to cook and get soft.If you add the potatoes too soon they will get too soft and the other vegetables will still be a bit hard.

Third: Add the potatoes to the skillet. Salt and pepper the vegetables to taste. Stir everything together and stir again occasionally to prevent burning. Cook until the vegetables are soft. I will sometimes add a little of my stock to the pan and cover the pan to cook them and soften them, but you can simply saute as well. It is your choice.

Fourth: Move the vegetables aside in the pan to make room to put the ground turkey in. Allow the turkey to cook, and stir everything together once it does.

Fifth: When everything in the pan is cooked and mixed together, sprinkle your flour on top. You shouldn't need more than 4 Tbsps. I used 3 when I made mine. Mix the flour in until everything looks coated and is a thicker consistency.

Sixth: Add chicken broth to the pan and stir immediately. The pan should seem a bit looser at first when you first mix it. Allow the pan to bubble on the stove for a few minutes, it should thicken up into a gravy. If it is too loose, add more flour. Too thick, more stock. This is really all done by eye and personal taste. There are no exact measurements.

Seventh: Allow the filling to cool completely. Once the mixture is cooled, measure equally into 4 separate containers. These will be for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday's lunches. Store in the fridge and take one with you in the morning before you leave for work or school.

I know Shepard's pie traditionally has mashed potatoes on top and is baked, but this is my healthier version. Fat and calories are cut from the dish this way making it a lot healthier. I added the potatoes into the filling instead of mashed potatoes on top to in a way make up for that. This isn't a traditional recipe because a lot of it is not done by measurements, but instead by eyeballing and personal tastes. This recipe ends up being between 350-400 calories per serving (when divided by 4 servings), not too bad for lunch!

As always, thank you very much for reading! I hope you enjoyed :-)

I have had this blog entry and the next entry planned for quite a while now. I said in my last post of 2016 that I was going to make up an entirely new system for myself with my weight-loss journey. I did just that over the first weeks of the new year, however, I was putting off writing about it as I haven’t quite seen the results I was hoping for. Last Friday was originally when I wanted to post this particular entry (and then part 2 the following Friday), but when I was going on my third consecutive week of my weight not budging one bit, quite honestly it was frustrating me beyond belief. I felt maybe I shouldn’t share this new system just yet since I haven’t had the results I have hoped for at this point… but a month is far too early for me to just throw in the towel and give up. In many ways my new system is helping me out a lot and I do feel a lot better, even if the number on the scale doesn’t reflect that yet.

I have completely changed around the way I do things this time around. From eating plans, to water consumption, even to my gym schedule. Over the next two entries I want to take you on a typical day for me now. The first section, is going to explain how I start my day and go all the way until the end of the work day for me. The following entry (I may post by the end of the week, if not then next week for sure!) will be from when I leave work, to the gym, and then onto dinner for that evening. So here is how I start my day and continue throughout the day through work.

6:00 A.M: Well… to be perfectly honest I usually don’t get out of bed until about 6:10 a.m. every work morning. I do all the normal morning routines… cleanse my face and moisturize, brush my teeth, do my hair, and spend way too much time doing my makeup. But once all of that is done I head downstairs and always make sure I have something for breakfast. Whether it is a protein bar, quick bowl of cereal, or something along those lines I always make sure I have something. I have been making smoothies/protein shakes a lot lately for breakfast. The reason I like doing this is it is easy to bring with you (especially if you have one of the single serving sized blenders… if you don’t have one I highly recommend it. They are pretty inexpensive) and depending on what goes in, it is fairly filling and keeps me full throughout the morning. The one pictured I made with 1 cup of frozen cherries, 1 cup of plain 0% fat Greek yogurt, ½ cup of unflavored/unsweetened almond milk (I sometimes use soy), and 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder. This smoothie ends up being about 370 calories which really isn’t bad for breakfast. You need to start your day out right to power through it.

With my breakfast I always take my vitamins and supplements. Now, that is a personal choice. Quite frankly I probably take too many vitamins but they are all for different purposes. I take omega pills (I take these mainly for my skin, but they have so many other great benefits as well), I take a multivitamin, a hair, skin, and nails vitamin, along with an Olly pre & probiotic gummy. I also take a vitamin C tablet, but I really only do that around this time of year to boost my immune system a bit. It may be over kill at this point, but truthfully I just went a little vitamin happy when my wellness card from my health insurance was reimbursed and purchased a bunch.

Don't you just love my motivational/positive desk décor?
Once I get to work and settled in for the day I usually decide to have a cup of green tea. Green tea is supposed to be great for metabolism and giving you a boost. Typically I make my cup with 2 tea bags and I leave the tea bags in the cup the entire time I am drinking it, just to make it a bit stronger. I do not add any sweeteners or anything to it, just plain green tea. I have been considering looking into and researching green tea extract to maybe just put into my water because quite honestly I can’t stand the taste of green tea, but until then this is how I do it.
I find it really funny that you can see me
taking this in the reflection of the pencil sharpener.
Next is staying hydrated. This is SO IMPORTANT. I know I have preached about drinking enough water so many times but with good reason. Your body is made up of a certain percentage of water, so it is important to keep water coming in to replenish the water that is naturally lost throughout the day. Look, I know how hard it is for many people to drink water. I personally have no problems with drinking water, however, I do find it harder in the colder months of the year and have to make myself get in my eight glasses, but honestly 64 oz. is not that much water to consume. I take my reusable water bottle with the built in filter to work with me every day. This bottle holds 32 oz. of water and I try my best to make sure I drink one full bottle by lunch time, then I usually finish the second before I leave work, but essentially I have the rest of the day to finish the second up.
12:00 P.M: Lunch time!! To be completely honest once 10:00 or 11:00 hits I am ready for lunch, but I always wait until noon to eat so I am not counting down the hours until dinner. What I have been doing is making all my lunches on Sunday so everything is ready to go in the morning and I can just grab a container from the fridge and go. My biggest problem before would be either forgetting to make my lunch the night before or just being too rushed in the morning that I wouldn’t have a lunch to bring to work, resulting in getting take out or something just not very healthy. By making everything up for the week on Sunday, it eliminates that issue all together. I shared a picture here of a little collage of the many different meal prep lunches I have done so far. Helpful hint: Check Pinterest for ideas! A lot of these were ideas and/or recipes I got from there.

My main focus over these first few weeks of the brand new year have been dedicated to figuring out the best system and process that will work for me. I reinvented the wheel in a sense for myself. After lunch comes that is pretty much it (at least for as far as this blog goes). I have been going to the gym again as well, but I am saving that for my next post. I want to share my second half of the day for that post as well as share what I have in my gym bag.
Although I haven’t seen the numbers on the scale go drastically down, I still have lost about 5 lbs over these last few weeks and have kept it off. Sure that has been a tiny bit disheartening and frustrating, but the main goal for myself during all of this is to get and feel healthy again, and I already do to a certain degree. The most important thing to me is to have more energy again and just all around feel healthier. Overtime the weight-loss will just come hand in hand with that. So far so good!

I typically do not comment or talk about any kind of pop culture on my page, but with this post I decided to make an exception. One of the newer shows on television, This Is Us has really exploded in popularity and is talked about and watched by so many. To be completely honest here, as soon as I saw Milo Ventimiglia in the preview a few months before the premiere date I was sold, however, once I started watching the show I found myself quickly getting involved with the characters. Laughing with them, crying with them (and let me tell you there is A LOT of crying with them), and just all around feeling a connection with these fictional characters played by lovely actors.
I actually was watching the latest episode while doing my cardio at the gym last night, not something I recommend doing as you are either smiling like an idiot or crying your eyes out… but hey I live life dangerously. The reason I bring this up on my page here is because of one very specific character. I will say this right now, if you have not watched the show and do not want anything ruined, then do not continue to read this entry. SPOILER ALERT! The character I am talking about is Kate Pearson. If you have watched the show I am sure you basically know why I am bringing her up, but there is so much more behind her.
Kate is played by the beautiful Chrissy Metz. Kate is a newly 36 year old woman with a weight issue that affects her physically and very clearly emotionally as well. In one of the first scenes you meet this character you see her completely strip down before stepping on a scale. She puts her toes on it then backs up and removes her earrings. Anyone with any sort of weight issue will know just how relatable this is. This may be too much information here, but I too weight myself with nothing on. I find it is just going to be the most accurate reading that way. I have, however, found myself thinking if I should remove my fitbit, earrings, or if I have my glasses on instead of contacts because they may add just enough weight to show a difference. This is of course really silly, but I am almost certain it is a common occurrence. In the first few minutes of screen time Kate is a highly relatable character for someone going through a similar issue in their life.
Fast forward a little into the same episode and Kate decides she wants to change her eating habits. You see her taking her armful of junk food to her trash can outside and tossing it all in. She looks up to see a neighbor walking her dog. After a short pause she asks the neighbor for the dog’s droppings the neighbor has cleaned up during their walk and put in a bag. Once she has them, she empties the bag of the dog’s waste on top of the food in the garbage. She knows herself well enough to know that she may be tempted even by this food in the garbage can, so she steps in and does something to make this food completely undesirable and not edible. To me, this is the first sign of strength in her. To recognize that and take steps to prevent it from happening.
To continue with that theme, you later see her at a support group meeting for people with the same issue as her. This is where she meets Toby. Toby basically hits on her at the coffee table after the meeting is over. She responds to him by saying “I can’t fall for a fat person right now,” which at first seems a bit harsh. After considering it a bit more it really becomes clear that she knows someone with similar problems and habits as herself may be a strain on her weight-loss journey (haha see what I did there). Sometimes relationships can trigger old habits and losing progress because people get comfortable around each other and Kate clearly is aware of this. Toby, however, responds with “Well I guess I will lose the weight” triggering a grin from Kate (and a big stupid smile from me) as he walks away… and their relationship continues to grow, but I won’t give too much away here. Quite frankly though, Kate and Toby are relationship goals!
A few episodes later and Kate is getting frustrated at her lack of progress (which I really can relate to right now, but I am not letting it get me down). She starts considering gastric bypass surgery as it will be a quick and easy fix (or so she thinks) to her problem. You see here just how strained her relationship is with her mother, as her mother attends her meeting with the doctor as well. Her mother, Rebecca is played by the gorgeous Mandy Moore. Kate had a weight issue even as a child and always felt like she was nothing compared to her mother. You see a little of this when a young Kate is comparing the size of her sweater to her mother’s. You also see bits and pieces or Rebecca trying to help Kate with her weight issue and is really concerned she is going to be made fun of. A very sweet and motherly action that to a kid seems mean and upsetting. Rebecca blames herself in a way and tries to do her best to remedy the situation, but this only causes a huge strain on their relationship… something that Kate is bothered and feels guilty for even as an adult. You see a bit of this in another episode as well.
In the very last episode that has aired (the episode that aired on 1/24/2017) the audience starts to see the start of where Kate’s main emotional issues came up that what I assume was the start of her real downfall. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP: You find out that Kate’s father’s death occurred while the kids were in their teenage years. This is only shown in little flash memories of the funeral service, and the three kids (Kate and her two brothers) are by the looks of it only in high school. This is such an emotional memory that Kate actually screams out and is crying when they are flashing in her memory. To me, I read this as what could possibly be the major turning point in Kate’s emotions and quite possible a huge trigger in weight gain as well. An emotional time period that the audience is still quite in the dark about, but I am sure will learn more as the series continues.
So what is my main point to bringing this character randomly up on my blog? To me, the world really needed a Kate Pearson. The world needed to see the different sides to someone struggling with a weight problem other than just assuming they eat horribly and lay around all day. I identified with this character almost immediately but not just because of my weight problem. I see a strength in Kate that I have in myself and for the longest time did not see either. It is actually refreshing to see an overweight character shed in an almost sympathetic and understanding light rather than an almost comical one. The first season hasn’t even ended yet and Kate has already grown so much.
Kate is made out to be a person who puts everyone else ahead of her in the beginning of the series. That slowly changes throughout the season. She stops catering to her brother Kevin’s every little request and need. That was a huge step alone. When Toby later on decides he isn’t dieting anymore and goes on a binge she recognizes this as toxic to herself and steps away from that situation as well. Kate absolutely recognizes what she needs to do and is slowly starting to do it. Kate hasn’t shown a drastic progress in her weight-loss at this point, but she is making progress in so many other great ways. Many ways in which I have myself over the past year or so. I think that is reflected within the entries of this blog.
I so look forward to seeing how this character continues to grow and change as the next few seasons continue. The world really needed this character as I already said, but felt it needed to be said again. A huge round of applause goes to both Chrissy Metz and of course to the producer Dan Fogelman and of course the writers as well. Thank you and I look forward to seeing what else this beautiful show brings.

A few months back I decided to start up a little series of posts about people that mean a lot to me and people that inspire me. I am finally writing the next post in that series. Today I am going to write about another friend that has been in my life for a long time and really isn’t going anywhere. I do plan on dedicating a post or two to family members as well in the near future, but today I wanted to follow up my last “people that inspire me” post with another friend. This post is all about Stephanie Bickelman.

When I asked her permission to write this entry, of course after expressing gratitude she replied “You’re not going to write anything embarrassing are you?” Oh how I probably totally could (and she could most definitely tell some very embarrassing stories about me) but that is not what I am here today to do.

Let’s start with a little background on our relationship. Steph and I met in religion class in first grade, making us only about 6 years old at the time. Allegedly I brought a doll with me to class and while showing it to the class, the head popped off. I honestly do not remember this at all, but the funny part is that is one way our friendship works. We both have these vivid memories of the past that the other does not remember at all. One thing we both remember is that many hours talking on the phone (and probably just as many hours of me getting frustrated and hanging up), stupid inside jokes (that I was mainly the butt of), and just really always being there for each other. Just about eighteen years later and we are still just as close.

At her brother's wedding June 2016
The reason this girl is so inspiring to me is her complete dedication and motivation in everything she does. When we were in undergrad school she was working two part-time jobs on top of being a full-time student and maintaining a spectacular GPA. During all of this she still managed to go to the gym pretty much daily and (I’m pretty sure) she still slept as well and had way more of a social life than I did. I found it difficult to juggle my part-time job with school and she was doing so much more than that. I have always admired her for that.

Gym buddies!
On top of all of her motivation and drive she is also a great friend. She has always been 100% supportive of me and everything I do. When I first started losing weight and I would share my results with her, her words were always so encouraging and helpful. We were gym buddies for a while as well. That is a big part of staying motivated in my opinion, having someone to do it with, and she was always there for me… even though if I tried to talk to her while we were working out I was literally scolded. She is there for me about anything, anytime of day, no matter what. Not everybody is lucky enough to have a friend like that and I truly appreciate her friendship so much.

Celebrating her 24th birthday, July 2016.
I will sum this up here as I don’t want this post to be the size of a novel (and it easily could be). I truly appreciate and am so thankful to have this girl in my life. She is here for me no matter what with absolutely no judgments and always offers her best advice. She tells me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear, and to me that is a real friend. For so many reasons Steph inspires and motivates me to be a better person.

2016 is coming to a close in less than a week. In some ways it seems like the year just started, while in other ways 2016 seemed like the longest year I can remember. Although this blog was neglected over the past few months, I am fairly proud with how often I posted over the year. I wanted to take some time and reflect on the year and talk about things hopefully to come in the new year.

My personal life aside (for right now) 2016 was quite an interesting year. We lost countless souls. Many I know lost close family, friends, and there were even a number of celebrities just in this year alone that passed. From all of this loss, to quite an interesting election (to say the least), all the way to those shocking (at least for me) last four words of the “Gilmore Girls” revival. The year was an interesting one to say the least. Despite all of this, I wouldn't change my experiences and growth throughout this year for anything.

I started off 2016 as a girl frustrated with her weight-loss journey and the backtracking and just the general lack of motivation and progress. I admittedly gained some weight over the year, which I am not really proud to admit, but I also gained some great things throughout this year as well. I started not worrying so much about the number on the scale and more about the person I am inside. I started looking to the future and not dwelling on the past. 2016 had a ton of curve-balls for me and I believe I took them in stride. I think if you read my posts at all throughout this past year you noticed that. I am by no means throwing all care to the wind and gaining all the weight back and not caring about my health anymore... but I am certainly not letting that number define me any more. I probably sound like a broken record here as a lot of my posts this year reflected that.

The number one thing I gained this year is confidence. Not that I had absolutely no confidence at all before, but I certainly lacked it. I would constantly think about the past and dwell on events that should no longer matter to me. I don't do that anymore. Why worry about the things we cannot change right? My weight does not determine my worth in my eyes any longer. I like the person I am inside. I may have some issues with the person I am on the outside, but I will change that. The great thing about time and about being human is that we have so many resources and opportunities to become the people we want to be only as long as we put in the effort.

I truly believe I grew so much within the last year. So many people came into my life and they each carried a different lesson for me. Some of them stayed while some did not, and that is perfectly okay. As cliché as it is, I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason. I truly grew so much throughout this year. I just wanted to reflect on all of that.

Now that the reflection portion is through, I want to talk about moving forward. I have so many plans for myself next year. One of these plans is the main theme of them all. Never looking back. I spent so much time until recently dwelling on the past. Even with this blog in a way. I always talked about what I did in the past to lose the weight. Obviously that isn't working for me anymore. My main piece of advice to anyone seeking weight-loss advice is always to find a system that works for you. Just because a points system works for someone or counting calories works for another, that does not mean that is the magic answer. With those words of advice I did not keep in mind that we are all changing every day. Ever since I got off track and started gaining weight all I did was just try to go back to what I was doing. Up until recently I would try out my old way of doing things for a while only to be off track again within a week or so. I never thought about that fact that I am a very different person now.

Back when I originally lost the weight I was 21 years old, a Junior in college, and just all around living a pretty different life. I went to school all day and then worked nights part time after school as well as getting my school work done. Very different to today where I am almost 25 (turn 25 on Saturday!), have a full time day job and my nights are mostly free. I have a very different physical and mental schedule as I did back then and I didn't really keep all that in mind when trying to get myself on a healthier track again.

Looking forward and making plans for the new year I have been mindful of that. I have been trying to plan out a new system for myself such as meal times and a workout schedule that I believe will better suit me. I am doing my very best to work out something that I believe will work for the me I am today. I am sure it will be a lot of trial and error, but when I work something out I will be sure to share.

Starting now I am no longer determining my present based on my past success. This is a new journey entirely on its own. My weight today is my starting weight, not my starting weight back then. With that I need a new starting picture. I still have the same raggedy, wrinkled, stained tank top as I used in the original one just for effect, but other than that this is me as I am right now. As unflattering as it is, I wanted to share the photo with you all as the mark of my new journey. So here it is... I look lovely don't I? Hair thrown up, glasses, no makeup (rare these days, I know) and everything! :-P

I want to continue my growth in so many ways in the new year. I want to find a new system that works for me and share my progress with all of you. I am no longer dwelling on the past and revolving my life around what I did back then. I really do want to strengthen my relationship with God as well and I plan to try and do that as well. I also want to do more writing both for this page as well as side projects. I have a lot I want to do in the new year, but it is also important to live each day as its own. Treat every day as a failure or a success and realize that tomorrow just marks the next start. Worrying about the future is no way to live. Plans are great to make and work toward, but living each day is important as well. After all as J.K. Rowling wrote: “It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live.”

Here is to the end of another year and the rapid approach to the beginning of a new one. If you stuck around to fully read this entry, thank you very much. I appreciate every single read on this page. I wish you all a very happy and safe new year and I will see you all with new postings next year! <3

I know, I know… I am a bad blogger and haven’t updated in over a month! I am not going to make excuses at all, life simply got in the way and the blog took the back burner, as did my weight-loss (in a way). My weight has pretty much stayed the same lately… which, I mean I will take over gaining any day, but I had hoped I would be down a bit by now, especially with the holidays coming very soon. Am I going to beat myself up over this? Of course not. I don’t do that anymore as it truly does no good. Today is a new day! With all of that being said, I want to offer probably (to me) my most important and useful piece of advice as far as weight-loss goes on this page: Do your very best not to lose momentum.

In my opinion, that was my biggest mistake. I was doing so well and on a very good track at losing weight for quite a while. I let life get in the way and I started back tracking, and now that I am trying to get back on track and get myself healthier again, I am finding it so hard to do so. Whatever clicked in me the first time around that I went so hard and was so dedicated, I just can’t seem to get to click again with the same intensity. I think that’s normal though… once you lose momentum it is so hard to get going again (and not just with weight-loss).

Before closing out this post there is one more thing I want to mention. One thing to remember about losing weight or really any big change in your life… that is to do what works for you! I know I dedicated an entire post to a similar message in the past, but with anything you do like this there is always going to be at least one person insisting to you that you have to listen to their advice if you’re going to succeed. NO! Just because something works for one person does not mean it will work for you. I had a dear friend giving me advice about my ongoing struggle, the good kind of advice though, not the insisting of how to do it kind. He said that even if you only lose a pound a week that is still progress… and that is SO true. If one pound a week is what you are capable of, well that is still progress and never let anyone tell you differently. I don't doubt that these people have anything but your best interests in mind, may it be a family member, friend, or even a colleague... but that doesn't mean their advice will be solid for you. Trust yourself among all others.

One of the most frustrating and to be blunt, annoying things a person can do is tell you exactly what you should be doing to lose weight (or whatever else you may be trying to achieve), or that you’re not going at it hard enough, or that you are not trying hard enough. You know you the best and never let ANYONE tell you that you’re not doing something fast enough. Work at the pace that is best for you. If that means baby steps then so be it! I am sitting here writing this on my lunch break from work, eating my healthy lunch I packed last night (A turkey sandwich with thinly sliced cheese on flatbread, cut up raw carrots, celery, and peppers with light blue cheese, an apple, and pretzels… in case you were wondering), and that to me is a start in the right direction. I cannot speak for tomorrow, and I cannot change yesterday, but right now I am doing pretty well, and that is the pace that works for me.

As always, thank you for reading. It truly does mean so much to me.
